SWAA Mission Statement
Southwestern Artists’ Association was founded in 1949. At present, we have the largest membership in Spanish Village Art Center. We believe the arts are an important part of the life of a healthy community. Our mission is to establish and maintain a gallery that extends friendships and promotes knowledge amongst San Diego County artists.
About Us
Founded in 1949, the Southwestern Artists Association (SWAA) aims to create and sustain a community of artists who foster camaraderie, share expertise, and cultivate an appreciation for the art and its production within the San Diego County community.
We are a vibrant group of 47+ talented local San Diego artists who create paintings using oils, acrylics, pastels, mixed media, and watercolor. The artwork is as varied and lively as the people creating it. The Studio is staffed and managed on a voluntary basis by the collective efforts of all the member artists.
The paintings displayed in the main part of the Studio change on the first Monday of the Month. Additionally, the studio features special exhibits of selected artwork that rotate every two weeks, providing three chosen members with a larger area to showcase their pieces. Visitors can observe the members as they create art and discover more about their artistic techniques.
The Studio’s gift shop displays unique handcrafted items, including jewelry, glasswork, miniature paintings, and cards.
